Video Purification
See the difference the Ocule can make in your home theater
Pictures that Jump Out at You
1080p is currently considered the best resolution available in devices sold to home users, and conventional wisdom dictates that it won't get any better until we either add more pixels or improve other specs like contrast ratio or color depth. The Ocule by Salt Labs uses Darbee Visual Presence™ patented technology to dispell this conventional wisdom by mathematically purifying the image. The result are stunning images with more detail and depth and they seem to jump out at you.
How This Fits Into Your
Home Theater
Home theaters are typically made up of sources (Blu-Ray players, DVRs, Game Consoles, etc) and displays (HDTVs, Monitors, and Projectors). These devices use HDMI for the most part these days. It's that digital Audio/Video signal that is now the most popular high definition interface in home theaters. The Ocule goes inbetween those devices using HDMI, so one end of the Ocule connects to your source devices and one end connects to your display.
Learn How to Install the Ocule
The Ocule is a simple solution for upgrading your HDMI signal, and as such has a simple and painless installation. All that is needed is one extra HDMI cable to add the Ocule to any Device. Place the Ocule in between the source and the display and plug in the included power adapter. Once the Ocule is plugged in and powered, turn on your HDMI device and use the stock settings, or use the included remote to change the settings of your Ocule.
The Ocule will come out of the box with 100% enhancement, but we recommend the user to adjust the settings to make their video look best to them. Everyone has different opinions of what looks best to them, and as such The Ocule can be customized from 0% to 120% video purity. The Ocule also has 3 settings for different situations; Hi Def, Gaming, and Full Pop. The Ocule also includes a demo mode for a side-by-side comparison so the user can show off the difference the Ocule makes, or to be used as a reference while customizing.
How Does This Work?
It's All About Depth Cues
The Ocule uses Darbee Visual Presence™ patented technology to purify HD images that were thought to be as perfect as possible. It's all about "depth cues." Depth cues are the hints in an image that tell your brain you are seeing an object with real depth when in reality, you're looking at an HDTV. As film is captured by cameras and processed, depth cues get washed out and images look less convincing.
The Ocule's processor takes each frame of video and mathematically makes a version of it from the right and another version of the picture from the left (as if there were two cameras pointed at the image), and then takes those two images and subtracts out the differences. And so, the "depth cues" (those areas of the picture that tell your mind you're looking at a picture with some depth) stand out a bit more, improving the overall quality of the image, making the illusion of depth much more compelling than with your standard HDTV.
The Design
The Smooth Aluminum
Body of the Ocule
To house technology this good, we knew the Ocule needed to be as attractive as the images it created. That’s why we mill the body out of a block of aluminum before anodizing it for a smooth lustre finish. The meandering seam runs around the rectangular form away from buttons, lights, and ports to create a clean, uninterrupted face. An eye-catching red foot makes sure the Ocule won’t go anywhere.
